ABOUT

Alde Valley School is an inclusive, community High School for students aged between 11 and 19 in an area close to the Heritage Coast but taking students from the small towns of Leiston, Aldeburgh and Saxmundham and from a very wide rural area from Tunstall in the south, to Framlingham in the west and Blythburgh in the north. Young people in Years 7 -11 are taught at our Seaward Avenue site in Leiston and the Sixth Form are taught in a dedicated Sixth Form Centre in Waterloo Avenue.

The School is based on an ethos of Achievement for All and on the efforts of a staff team who are committed to ensuring that every student achieves their potential and develops the self confidence and self esteem to contribute effectively to society. We are constantly striving to improve what we do for students through some very strong partnerships with our parents and through a very supportive Pyramid of schools in which staff work together for all children and young people aged 5 - 19. We take a great deal of time and effort to make sure that the transition from primary school to secondary school is the best it can be and have a full programme of activities throughout the year where primary pupils can visit the school, but with a special focus in Year 6.

A very wide and exciting curriculum enables all students to learn in the way that suits them best, gives stretch and challenge for our most able students and expert support for those young people that need it to progress in the learning. Our belief is that every young person deserves to develop the full range of skills required to be successful in life and this leads to us involving a range of community groups and employers in the delivery of lessons and key activities during the year.

The success of the High School is dependent on the input of every teacher in our Alde Valley Pyramid over the time the student has spent in school. From 2013 all students nationally are required to stay on in some form of education or training after 16. Our unique and forward thinking Sixth Form has long been providing a range of courses for all abilities and the students enjoy a full choice of traditional academic subjects, some excellent enrichment courses, work placements, and several cutting edge vocational options in a superb Sixth Form Centre. Years 12 and 13 learn in a very adult environment and are encouraged to take real leadership of our younger students. We value innovation amongst our staff and we are developing the ability of students to take real responsibility for the students. We value innovation amongst our staff and we are developing the ability of students to take real responsibility for their learning and for helping us improve what the school can offer as each year goes by.
